Facial Scrubs Beauty Recipes

What are facial scrubs?

Cleansing grains and scrubs are best used first thing in the morning, when your skin is craving both cleansing and nourishment. Save cleansing oils and toners for the evening.

You can use your favourite scrub in the shower, where it’s super easy to quickly rinse it off. You could also rinse it off right about your sink. As with cleansing oils, make sure you chose a scrub that suits your skin type.

How To Apply Facial Scrubs

1. Start by placing a small amount of scrub (no more than a couple of teaspoons) into a small dish, or simply in the palm of your hand.

1. Choose the Right Clay (or Combination of Clays) For Your Skin Type

Bentonite is a highly porous clay with the unique ability to draw toxins out of your skin like a magnet! Its acne-clearing, skin-tightening and impurity-absorbing powers make it a perfect fit for oily skin.

The gentlest of all cosmetic clays, white kaolin soothes the skin and stimulates blood circulation. And while it does have absorbing and exfoliating properties, it remains gently enough for dry or sensitive skin.

2. Choose a Scrubbing Agent (or Combination of Scrubbing Agents) That Suits Your Exfoliating Needs

In addition to being highly absorbent and hypoallergenic, ground oats help to soften the skin. Their gentle exfoliating powers promote cell turnover and are well suited for dry or sensitive skin.

Almond meal and rice flour have more robust exfoliating powers; as such, they are best saved for oil and acne-prone skin.

3. Enrich with specialized ingredients

Is your dry skin in desperate need of moisture? Make powdered milk a part of the intervention.

Honey is loaded with nutrients, antioxidants and healing compounds that can help moisturize, slow down aging and fight off bacteria, making it ideal for dry or sensitive skin.

Got acne? Forget about harsh chemicals; baking soda can be your new best friend. However, use it sparingly to avoid throwing off your skin’s natural pH.

4. Personalize With Essential Oils or Flower Petals

Rose petals and lavender buds (or a combination of the two) will lend a pleasant scent to your grains. You can also create your own fragrance using essential oils; a combination of tea tree and oregano, for example, could work miracles on oily skin!
